Convert your Vanguard mutual funds to ETFs
At SLP Wealth, we prefer to invest in ETFs over mutual funds for a variety of reasons including flexibility of trading, tax efficiency and lower expense ratios.
If you currently have an account at Vanguard invested in mutual funds, your planner might suggest swapping out one or more certain mutual funds for their ETF equivalents, which is free to do while at Vanguard and does not realize gains in the process like selling would.
To initiate this swap, follow the steps below:
- Log onto your vanguard account
  - Go to www.vanguard.com and enter your username and password.

- Click on the "Support" icon in the top right of the dashboard screen.

- From the support page, scroll all the way down to the "Investment products & services" section

- Under the "Investment products & services" section, click "Product information & other resources"

- From this page, click "convert a mutual fund to an ETF"

- Follow the instructions and convert the mutual funds indicated by your planner.
*If you prefer, you can call customer service to make the swap for you:
- Call Vanguard’s customer service at 877-662-7447
- Ask for an in-kind mutual fund-to-ETF conversion and indicate the fund swaps as advised by your planner.
