How to set up direct deposits into Altruist

If you would like to set up direct deposit from your payroll into Altruist account, reach out to your advisor and see the instructions below.

Note: in order to set up direct deposit, you will need an Altruist Cash account (HYSA). You can set up automatic transfers within Altruist to move funds from your Cash account to your taxable brokerage or retirement account after funds are received into Altruist.

Once you reach out to your advisor (and set up an individual Altruist Cash Account if you did not already have one), you will receive an invitation to create virtual account numbers for banking. For your security, Altruist creates a unique account number separate from your main account number that is to be shared with your HR and/or payroll provider.

When you receive your invitation, acknowledge and accept:

You will then get a confirmation that you are all set.

To access your new account number for direct deposit, return to your account details page, then select "Direct deposit details"

Copy and submit to payroll

After accepting the Banking Services Agreement, you can copy your unique account and routing numbers directly from the drawer (there's a one-click copy button for each) and submit them to your employer's payroll portal, HR system, or wherever you manage direct deposit. Most payroll systems ask for: routing number and account number.

The numbers are also visible to you on the advisor side, so if you need help finding the information, your advisor can grab that for you.

Transfer to brokerage

Once you submit the info to your employer, you can let your advisor know to set up a transfer within Altruist for the amount/cadence you wish. There are a few considerations to note regarding settling of cash and timing of transfers to ensure they execute successfully moving forward, so we recommend letting your advisor setting up the automated transfers.
